Application Call for Capacity Building Research Expedition to Everest Base Camp and Yala Glacier (Langtang)

We are pleased to announce an application call for Capacity Building Research Expedition to Everest Base Camp and Yala Glacier (Langtang) supported by National Geographical Society (NGS) and ICIMOD, respectively.
Everest Base Camp Expedition
The educational trip to Everest Base Camp will be led by Prof. Baker Perry, who previously led the NGS Everest Expedition to set-up AWS at the top of Everest, from Appalachian State University. The trip will also feature two esteemed professors from USA and the renowned female climber Ms. Dawa Yangum Sherpa. Around 10 graduate students from USA are also joining this trip. During Expedition the participants will have an opportunity to witness vast meteorological monitoring network set-up in the valley including Pyramid International Laboratory at Lobuche.

Yala Glacier Expedition
This Capacity building research expedition to Yala glacier is regular fieldwork initiatives organized by ICIMOD at our request. Participants will directly involve in glacier mass balance, AWS, hydrological and permafrost monitoring station maintenance and data download.
Date: ~ 15 to 30 May (may shift few days before or after)
Eligibility: – MSc students and recent graduates who enrolled in MSc programs since 2020. However, priority will be given to current students who demonstrate strong motivation to pursue a research career in cryosphere and high-mountain hydro-meteorology.
