CDHM Alumni got an opportunity to interact with Chinese Prime Minister

Dr. Dambaru Ballab Kattel, 10th batch graduate student of the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (CDHM), Tribhuvan University and one of the active alumni of this department, recently got the opportunity to interact with HE Mr. Li Keqiang, the Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of China on 2 February, 2021. Dr. Kattel was invited to participate the symposium held by Premier Li Keqiang for representatives of foreign experts working in China.

During the symposium, Dr. Kattel said in his statement that “the International Program of “Third Pole Environment (TPE)” and the Kathmandu Centre for Research and Education (KCRE), Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tribhuvan University have played an important role in building an international scientific and technological cooperation and exchange platform to jointly address the issue on climate change and global environmental protection.” DR Kattel also noted that research on the impact of global climate change on the third pole region requires more international cooperation, academic exchanges, organizational training, and capacity building to address the regional issues like climate change.

Dr. Kattel is currently working as an Associate Professor at the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing China. Dr. Kattel’s research mainly focuses on the process and mechanism of climate and hydrological changes in the Third Pole region, and at the same time deeply participates in the TPE program, making outstanding contributions to promoting international cooperation in the study of the Himalaya-Tibetan Plateau and expanding international influence.
