Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (CDHM), Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, Kathmandu, welcomed delegates from Kentucky State University on June 23, 2025. The team comprised 14 members including head of department, faculties and undergraduate students from the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources, led by Prof. Dr. Buddhi Raj Gyawali and Dr. Suraj Upadhaya as a part of the study abroad program. The program was coordinated and hosted by Dr. Dibas Shrestha. Following a round of introduction, Prof. Dr. Deepak Aryal delivered a presentation highlighting the CDHM’s academic programs, progresses and ongoing research initiatives. This was followed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Binod Pokharel, who shared insights into published research and projects related to climate change impacts in Nepal. Dr. Dibas Shrestha then presented the department’s work in cryospheric sciences, titled “Status and Fate of Future Glaciers.” Later, researcher Dr. Arbindra Khadka shared compelling research from the High Himalayas, particularly in the Everest region, showcasing CDHM’s strong presence in high-altitude scientific studies. Although the visiting students were not majoring in hydrometeorology, the session remained lively and engaging. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and unending stream of thoughtful questions fostered a vibrant atmosphere of knowledge exchange. Faculty from the visiting team mentioned that the visit provided Kentucky State University students with valuable exposure to a different academic environment and inspired conversations around potential collaborations. Similarly, the international students expressed appreciation for the opportunity to broaden their academic perspectives through this experience. The program was then formally concluded with closing remarks by the Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Tek Bahadur Chhettri. The program wrapped up with mutual interest in exploring future joint research initiatives and student exchange programs.
